In brief The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)—the central bank of the Philippines—said it is conducting research into creating a central bank digital currency. This is the first time the country has expressed interest in a CBDC. But the bank’s governor said that cash still rules—and the country is a long way behind Japan and China.
