Stocks gained ground on Tuesday, buoyed by an agreement by European Union leaders to support the bloc’s countries with 750 billion euros ($857 billion) in grants and loans. Most European indexes were 1 percent to 2 percent higher in morning trading. In Asia earlier in the day, markets also had a positive day.
