On May 23, 1914, the SS Komagata Maru arrived in Vancouver with would-be immigrants led by Indian businessman Gurdit Singh, who sought to challenge Canada's exclusionary immigration policy towards Asians. The 376 passengers were denied entry to Canada, and had to remain on the ship for two months....
