Asia saw a 10-day winning streak come to an abrupt finish and Europe’s main bourses all fell with a thud as the selling gathered pace. London’s FTSE, Frankfurt’s DAX and Paris’s CAC40 were all down more than 2% and coronavirus-sensitive sectors such as carmakers and travel and tourism saw a fourth straight day of declines.
