A team of archaeologists from the Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment at the University of Tübingen, the Lower Saxony State Office for Heritage, and Leiden University has unearthed a nearly complete skeleton of the , an extinct species of elephant that lived throughout Europe and Asia during the Pleistocene and Holocene.
