In Europe, London's FTSE fell 3.5 percent, Germany's DAX was down 3.4 percent and France's CAC dropped 3.8 percent. In Asia on Wednesday, Japan's Nikkei dropped 4.5 percent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 2.2 percent and the Shanghai Composite was off 0.6 percent.
