Infections outside China now surpass those on the mainland, with fatalities in Italy jumping by 368. In Asia, China added just 16 new cases, while South Korea reported no deaths. Governments worked to slow the spread of the outbreak, with more travel restrictions and closures of schools, bars and restaurants.
