The Venice Carnival has been called off as Italian authorities scramble to contain the coronavirus outbreak amid rapidly rising numbers of infections and a third death. The number of people infected with the virus in Italy has jumped to more than 150, the largest number outside Asia, and a dozen towns were put on lockdown.
