Japan's Nikkei 225 index advanced 0.5% while the Kospi in South Korea was nearly flat at 2,190.30. The Shanghai Composite index picked up 0.4% to 2,992.41. India's Sensex was flat at 41,449.08. In Southeast Asia benchmarks were mostly higher, while Taiwan was flat.
