Australia's international broadcasting services began on this day, 80 years ago, via shortwave radio, soon after World War II broke out. As nations in the Pacific gained their independence in the 1970s and 80s, the ABC turned the focus of its international broadcasting to the Pacific, as well as other parts of Asia.
