Mountbatten served as the head of the South East Asia Command, the body of allies who fought against the Japanese Imperial Army during World War 2. The campaign was one of the longest of the conflict, not helped by horrendous monsoon conditions, but as this weather began to pass the British prepared to launch a huge assault on Japanese forces.
