Lord Earl Mountbatten was a Royal Navy officer and second cousin once removed of Queen Elizabeth II. During World War 2, he was Supreme Allied Commander of the South East Asia Command, becoming a favourite of Winston Churchill for his role in the recapture of Burma from Imperial Japan.
