The New York Times in an editorial last Thursday described the U.S. government's pressure on Korea to contribute more for the upkeep of American troops here as "unreasonable" and undermining "yet another alliance." It added, "There is never a good time to squander political capital or weaken alliances, but this is an especially bad one in Asia.
