A priest from the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh has been chosen by Pope Francis to serve as a bishop in Atlanta. Bernard E. Shlesigner III will become Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Atlanta, which covers 69 counties in north and central Georgia and is home to 1.1 million Catholics.
