SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- When Barack Obama took office eight years ago, 600 people packed into the Palace Theatre to watch and celebrate. In 2001, when George W. Bush was inaugurated, hundreds of activists marched downtown in support. When the 45th president takes office Friday, much of that public enthusiasm will be missing.
