The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has no mandatory retirement age, but at 82 Schuler thinks it’s time. (Although Lutheran church congregations typically make their own decisions, the Synod — like a diocese in the Catholic church — handles administrative decisions.) Schuler is just the third pastor in Trinity’s 90-year long history.
