My last assignment in Washington was covering the 1963 March on Washington. On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, I was within touching distance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as he stirred the crowd with his biblical oratory, “I have a dream…”
There were other speeches, too, but the crowd and I preferred the music of Peter, Paul and Mary.
