| Local priest to make history at annual Mass for the blind |
|
The patron saint of the blind, Lucy was tortured and killed during the fourth-century Christian persecutions for denying marriage to commit her life to Christ and remain a virgin. The pagan man she was arranged to marry turned her in to the governor of Syracuse, Italy, who sentenced her to prostitution, then death upon her refusal.
