Born in El Salvador, the Central American country today known as murder capital of the world, the Rev. Jose Landaverde was smuggled out. He’d been just a teenager when he joined rebels fighting oppression by El Salvador’s brutal military regime during the civil war of 1980 to 1992, and he became one of the hunted.
