On this day in 1942, the Senate elected its 56th chaplain, the Rev. Frederick Brown Harris. Although highly regarded as the pastor of Washington’s Foundry Methodist Church, where he had arrived in 1924, Harris failed to survive the 1947 switch from Democratic to Republican control, when the GOP chose the Rev.
