In March 2013, David Beltier and his boyfriend were on an afternoon walk with their standard poodle, Beauty, in Hillsboro. Beauty's fur had been dyed a light pink color, and a few passers-by already had made derogatory remarks. Then a man yelling gay slurs out the window of an SUV made a U-turn, headed straight for Beltier and his boyfriend.
