Updated 28 minutes ago Lee P. Bittner Jr. shipped off to war in November 1944, when his wife, Martha Jackson Bittner, was eight months pregnant with their first child. They named him Lee Bittner III, because they didn't know whether Mr. Bittner would make it back home.
