Anna was born on Sept. 8, 1924, near Boyden, Iowa, to Gerrit and Catherina (Van Bochoeve) Meyer. Soon after, her parents moved to a farm southwest of Sheldon. She attended Lynn Township 1 Country School in Sioux County through the eighth grade. She then worked as a “hired girl” for several years, until getting a job at the Sheldon Hospital.
