Mustapha Dib's murder charge was dropped to manslaughter and in 2002 he was sentenced to ten years prison, with a non-parole period of five years. The sentencing almost broke Mr and Mrs Lee, who told journalists they wanted to die so they could meet their son in the afterlife. The couple kept Edward's room as a shrine with all his belongings.
