Oct. 2, 1993, in The Star: Gas stations all over the state and nation yesterday began adding a nickel to the price at the pump as a 4.3-cent-per-gallon increase in the federal gasoline tax went into effect. That’ll make the average cost of a gallon be a dollar and a nickel or so.
