Here is what was happening in El Paso in September 1897: Sept. 1, 1897. A wild steer made quite a commotion in the park this morning. He was being brought from the hills for slaughter when he escaped and made a dive for the fountain. Ed Wales was out of sorts because the animal had taken possession of the park.
