In 1820 the Diocese of Charleston was established and by 1840 Aiken moved closer to a church of its own. In 1853 Bishop I A Reynolds purchased land at the corner of Park Avenue and York Street. In 1867 Bishop Ignatius Persico an Italian Capuchin missionary arrived in Aiken and founded our Church.
