GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Fifty years ago, racial tensions in Grand Rapids erupted for three days of civil unrest on the city’s Southeast Side. The riot ran from July 25-27 in 1967. The 1967 Grand Rapids riot is not a widely remembered event, overshadowed by the magnitude of riots occurring the same month in Detroit and other cities.
