White, the senior pastor at St. Mary's Temple of Peace in Grand Rapids' southeast side, may be the longest-standing African American female pastor in the city. She joined the clergy at a time when women in the role were often looked down upon or ignored. She raised money to build the church at 1106 Sheldon St.
