James R. Owens, 85, an aerospace engineer who worked for Intelsat from 1976 to 1992 and then was a consultant for W.L. Pritchard Engineering, died May 11 at a hospital in Bethesda, Md. The cause was cancer, said a daughter, Kathleen O. Schoshinski. Mr. Owens, a Bethesda resident, was born in New York City.
