“He was really an extraordinary figure” – Arts minister pays tribute to late Erazim Kohák
The leading Czech philosopher Erazim Kohák passed away at the weekend at the age of 86. Professor Kohák’s family had to flee the Communists in 1948 and he could only return to his native country after 1989. Among those paying tribute to him have been Culture Minister Lubomír Zaorálek, who says his death will leave a gap in Czech public life.

Eamon O'Cuiv, Noel Grealish and Mairead Farrell elected in Galway West
3 TDs have been elected in Galway West on the 8th count. Eamon O'Cuiv of Fianna Fail took the first seat with 11,910 votes. Independent Noel Grealish was elected on 10,393 votes and the third seat went to Mairead Farrell of Sinn Fein on 10,340. Surplus votes now being distributed and the 9th count is due shortly from Salthill.
