Our audience on Shortwave
Even the largest broadcasters on Shortwave cannot accurately estimate the size of their audience to any program they air on Shortwave, to the same or even a comparable level of accuracy that any FM or TV station can do for any particular market. Since 1979, we have been working with several Radio Ministries, the BBC, the United Nations, UNESCO and other major International broadcasters and media, and with those involved in audience and International media research. Only the largest organizations like the BBC or Voice of America can afford the cost of conducting some sort of audience research on Shortwave. Some empirical data exists on the number of Shortwave receivers in each country, that lead to a potential audience of more than 10 millions in Europe and about the same in in N Africa and the Middle East, i.e. regions that we are able to cover with a Grade-A signal using our newly started 100 kW service. Most of the time we know that people are listening, because we monitor continuously our signal quality in several countries, and because listeners write us and/or to our members or program producers.

European Gospel Radio: Our target areas
Reception reports and our monitors indicates that IRRS-Shortwave signal with our 20 kW stream may be received with a clear signal all over Europe. Fringe reception depending on propagation conditions at the time of broadcasts allow reception outside our primary target area, i.e. in N America, Africa, and the Pacific.

Higher power broadcasts starting at 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 kW will reach areas well outside our primary target (Europe). If you are interested in other areas than Europe, please contact us for other options and rates, specifying your preferred target area. In most cases we may custom plan a broadcast to any region of the world and present you with a proposal in just a few hours.

How do I qualify to air on European Gospel Radio?
Any religious program producer or organization qualifies to air via European Gospel Radio. All of our media services operate on a strictly non denominational, non discriminatory basis. Our charter and mission says: "Pluralism of information is to be assured, with particular attention paid to minorities; above all ethnic, cultural, political, and religious minorities, without regard to race, sex, language, or political or religious beliefs, and in full accordance with the Human Rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Italy and by International Law"

As a non profit, broadcaster-supported organization, all of our costs are supported by members contributions and grants. We require that each members bears the cost of the use of any NEXUS-IBAs broadcasting facility, according to the time and transmitter powers required. The non-profit NEXUS-IBA system has cut overhead to the bone, but not at the cost of quality service! The small, dedicated NEXUS-IBA staff is for the most part volunteer. This fact, along with computerization coupled with state-of-the-art transmission equipment ensure NEXUS-IBA members reliable, top quality coverage at cost.

How does shortwave work?
Standard AM and FM stations lose their power as their signals dissipate along the ground over long distances. In Shortwave, the opposite is true. The Earth is encased in an invisible covering of gases called the Ionosphere. This acts like a mirror, reflecting shortwave signals back to Earth, thus making it possible to cover vast distances with a single transmitter. This is why shortwave is so efficient and cost-effective. In the case of European Gospel Radio, this means you can cover any target in Europe or beyond for the same or less money than it would cost to reach just one local market at home.

The value of Shortwave
Shortwave radio remains one of the key electronic media for reaching the maximum number of potential listeners in Europe. Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the Pacific, and certain regions in the Americas. This is proved by the fact that the world’s biggest international broadcast organizations continue their activities via Shortwave, and are investing heavily in new studio and transmission facilities. In recent history, The Gulf and the most recent Iraq War demonstrated once again and most impressively how important a telecommunications tool shortwave is in reaching a vast audience using inexpensive but highly powerful modern receivers that can be put in a suitcase or pocket. Shortwave is everywhere. It is the world’s most mobile medium. Ironically, it was the propaganda machine of Nazi Germany that recognized the power of Shortwave and perfected its use in the Second World War. Today, Shortwave is one of the greatest weapons in the fight for morality.
